As far as Kayak II is concerned, your best source for information would probably be a book called "Champions" published by the Daily Racing Form.  The book gives complete statistics for every good horse of every era from the 1890s through the late 1990s.  Kayak II's are on page 61.  He won 14 of 26 lifetime, with 8 seconds and 1 third, earning $213,205, but the book has the official records of all of his starts.  If you're looking for some particular information about him and don't want to spend $75 for the book, I could probably look them up for you.

There's also the Daily Racing Form's annual American Racing Manual, but I'm not sure it goes back quite that far.  I have a fair number of them, but my oldest is the 1947 edition.

I hope that's helpful.
