Understanding Horse Birth Dates in Racing: Why They Matter

Question
hello sir, may i know why the horse birth date is given in the racecard. is it really important to consider the horse birth?

Answer
hi -- all horses are born on different dates but all considered  a yearling in that year even if it is born like in may , which would make it a weanling. some 2 yr olds are only say 1 3/4 years old depending on their birth date. i do not belive in racing 2 Lyra olds as most of them are not really 2 yr old and may have open knees and should not even be in training . by 3 yr olds they are grown up enough for the rigors of training and racing. thanks ED HESS
