Optimal Weight for Horseback Riding Workouts: A Trainer's Perspective
Question
hello sir, with how much weight do you train all your stable horses in the morning workouts regardless of age, gender, body weight of the horse, type of work(light, moderate, heavy)? are your horses exercised with 150pounds in the morning?
Answer
They train anywhere from 120 lbs. to 185 lbs. I do prefer a lighter rider or the jockey, who will be riding the horse in the race, to do speed work on the horse. The heavier the rider, the slower I require them to gallop. Sometimes trainers use heavy riders as jogging riders where the horse will just be jogged in the mornings.
should be raced consistently
