hello sir, why few jockeys are instructed to take the horse 7 to 8 lengths in front during the mid part of the race especially running for stayers race? doesn't the ultimate result be zero since the horse loses stamina till it approaches final 2 furlongs?

Answer
Hi Rohit,
This race tactic suits a horse known as a 'one pacer'. That is a horse that can maintain a good rate for a long distance but does not like to sprint at the end. By leading out several lengths going into the straight, the one pacer can keep its place and all the others have to sprint to get past it. It demoralises other horses and is a very successful tactic' usually!
Cheers,
Don
