breeding race horses

Question
hello i recently in march purchased an ex-racehorse broodmare. her registered name is chanson de soleil. she has been breed 7 times and have 6 live foals. her 3rd last one came out dead. but anyway im thinking about breeding her, to Patton which she has been breed to a couple time before and had great babies. i was wondering what kind of price i would be able to sell the foal for if it was a colt or filly? she is on pediquery and jockey club and i think patton is to. patton is out of war somthing and seattle slew?????
something like that but they are both on pedigree query.
thanks.
alex
p.s. my mare won 114,845 on the race track and i forget what he won but it was more than her.
thanks again

Answer
Alex,

While I'm sure that Chanson de Soleil is a lovely riding horse, that is really all she is suited for, judging by her produce record.  She simply isn't a good choice for a broodmare, and if she was, I couldn't recommend breeding her to Patton, who has been less than stellar at stud.
You probably wouldn't get your board costs back from a foal out of this mare by Patton, much less the $2000 advertised stud fee.  Her two year old by Patton sold recently for $500.00, just as an example of her babies' worth on the open market.

Keep your mare, ride her and love her, but my advice is not to breed her.
