BULGING SHINS

HI, WE ARE LOOKING TO BUY A 2 YR OLD MALE AS A RACE HORSE.  HE HAS LARGE BUMPS ON HIS ANKLES.  THE OWNER SAYS THAT THEY ARE SOME FORM OF EXTRA CALCIFICATION ON THE BONES AND WILL HAVE NO IMPACT ON HIS PERFORMANCE. DO YOU HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE OR ADVISE ON THIS MATTER?  THANK YOU!

hi  your title say's  bulging shins, but your questions asks me about a bump on his ankle???. if he has a bump or bumps on each shin, which is on the shin bone only and not the lower ankle part. then i would be worried about  bucked shins or a small fracture on the actual shin bone, more commonly known as bucked shins.  if he has bumps on the lower ankles  both or one , then i would say he has obsoletes,which is calcification of the ankle joints  which means he has ankle problems and should be fired and flayed up for at least 6 months..  either way you should always have a vet x-rayed both shins and ankles separate  then the vet can tell you what is wrong with the horse.  never buy a horse unless you have it vented out first. hope this helps you  thanks ED HESS
