15 year Runner from First to Last

2016/7/22 10:05:55

Question
My son runs cross county and track.  Last year he placed 1st or 2nd in distance running.  This year Both inner thigh muscles are in pain and he is coming in last. Says his legs don't work - like lead weights.  He had an aggressive exercise regiment in the winter along with other sports.  He is very active in sport.  Ski, hockey, soccer... He also lost 8 lbs.  He's 96lbs, 5'4".  He eats ok, but went on a health kick - low fat diet this winter thinking it would make him faster.  All blood test are ok - Dr. thinks he's burning muscle and diet is problem, and he need's to beef up.  He is very depressed as he will probably loose his track season of 1st year high school.  He's been trying to gain weight - eating better for a few weeks now but it's slow.  What could be the recovery time and do you feel this is the issue or something else?  Thanks.

This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Laser Toenail Podiatrist says.......

Dear Phil,

Your doctor is right. Not only should your son eat healthy balanced meals-but it sounds that he has also over trained. He should pick one sport and train gently-or even take 2-3 weeks off-to allow a swifter recovery. Gentle stretches should be done to prevent tightening of the muscles between the different sports
Time off (he needs a little rest) and a good diet is best!
PS-I am a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, red belt in ShiDoKan Karate and double black diamond skier-I am speaking from experience.

Hope This Helps
Good Luck!
