Calf injury

2016/7/22 10:05:57

Question
Morning sir...

I picked up and calf injury 6 weeks ago. I ran a 42Km marathon and went well.  The following day my legs was fine but the Monday i couldn't walk. My right calf was so saw i couldn't move.  I nursed it for a week and went and did a 50Km race.  The last 10Km was hell and i couldn't walk or run.  I went to my Physio and she diagnosed it as a nerve injury.  I rested for 4 weeks doing the ice rest and a bit a massaging, but still its not cured.  The pain is in the middle of the calf, there where the gastrocnemiusses two heads split and almost overlapping the solius. I can walk and stand on my toes, doing almost everything but running properly, no way.  Please advise what can I do to improve this because i will be running my tenth Comrades marathon this year. If you don't know it its a 90Km race held in South Africa every year. It is a must for every runner in SA.  Please help if possible?  Thank you

I know Comrades well, running my first in 2012. It sounds like your injury could need some muscle therapy, and possibly some type of acupuncture could help with this pain and possibly help in healing. I would schedule something with a sports-related muscle therapist and also an acupuncture specialist who focuses on athletes. I'd try and get that in line and see if you can get help there. If not, let me know, I can ask around to see if I know anyone who has had similar injuries.

Good luck,
Nick
