Running Injury

Question
Hi John,
I am a 16 year old girl as a junior in high school and I am on the track and cross country team. About two weeks ago my upper left leg started hurting. ( Im pretty sure its my hip flexor). It didnt happen on one occasion, rather it started hurting a little and just got worse and worse. I first noticed it after we did stride outs at cross country. We had to go the length of a field, running fast and our strides had to be longer than usual, i think that is when i pulled it. I have tried taking 5 days off, icing, advil and its not getting better. I cant afford taking time off, because as you know running is not a sport you can sit out for a few weeks in.  I have stretched it alot, any advice on healing it??? It mainly hurts when i put weight on it and when i turn corners sharp. If i jump on that one leg i collaspe because it hurts so bad. I am not limping as bad as last week though. When i sit for a long period of time and then stand up it hurts bad, and it hurts when i start to run but starts to subside a LITTLE not all the way after a while running.

what  can  i do!?!?! im desperate! thanks!

Answer
Hi Megan
I would need to ask you many questions to properly diagnose your situation and provide a plan of action to take to resolve and get you back 100%.Can we get together on the phone to discuss this situation since email is very hard to get the kind of clarity i need from you and also to convey my thoughts to insure a complete understanding of what is necessary to take care of your situation. You can respond to me at my web site contact page with email and phone number since it is hard some times at allexperts. We can arrange a time over the weekend any time.I look forward to your response and hearing from you.I'm in albuquerque NM.

All the very best

John
