Estimated time of walking

Question
How long should the average time of my walking 1 mile be? How much time should running 1.5 miles take? And what would be a decent pulse rate after completing each? I am a 23 year old female 5'3" and 163 pounds. I have just recently taken up walking and running and this exercise was recommended to me and I would like to know the averages before really beginning.

Answer
There really is no 'average' times for these activities, as one should focus on improving on them according to their own abilities.  One of the reasons there are no 'averages' or 'good times' is because we are all created differently and there is no tried & true average for everyone to follow.  There are things like VO2 Max ratings that are based on a population spectrum (bell curve) which can give some indication of how fit you are compared to the general population.  If you go to exrx.net you can discover a multitude of fitness tests to simply do on your own, plug in your information, and get your results.
