pain during running!

Question
Hi!
Ive recently taken up running after a long time with no real exercise. I know my body will be in pain as its not used to it but when i go running i get pains in my ankles which make my feet feel really heavy? Im not sure how to explain it,I also suffer from shin splints and when I go up the stairs the back of my ankle /heel hurts. Is this all one problem or do I have 3 separate points of injury? I found when i wore a support on my ankle it eased the pain or at least it didnt come on so quickly. I have the correct trainers for my protonation. I just dont know if I should stop runnign an drest or if its just pain i ned to run through!
Thanks

Answer
Hi Caroline
What is going on is pretty much normal start up situations. There is nothing serious about what is acting up.For all your situations ice them as often as you can to reduce inflammation, but the very most important thing with out question as you make your come back is to have a great deal of patience and listen to your body and adjust quickly if situations surface. You can do a little walk jog alternating back and forth which would ease some of the stress on the muscular skeleton system and another great tool is some stationary bike workouts. You just have to take it easy and be patient and in time your body will adapt to the the over load process. That is just the price we pay for not keeping up with exercise.

All the best

John
