Calorie needs for training runner

2016/7/22 10:08:53

Question
I am a 23 year old female, 5'6" and weigh 167lbs.  I am trying to lose 30lbs, and have recently started training for a half marathon.  I run/jog anywhere from 8-15kms about 5-6 days a week as well as weight train 3days.  I was on a 1200-1400 calorie meal plan which I like and have been losing healthy(1-2lbs)amount of weight each week.  I am concerned about not having enough calories for the amount of activity I do, and have recently added about 200 more calories a day via protien powder.  I wanted to know what you think, and if I should increase my calorie intake even more even though I am trying to lose weight?

Answer
Hi Brandy
Your weight loss is going well and as long as your able to stay healthy and staying away from injury i think your fine at your present situation. If you listen to your body carefully day to day it will tell you if you need a little increase just from the way your feeling on your workouts and overall energy. You can also get mixed signals as it could be your training and possibly need to back off from time to time.If you have any other questions just get in touch Brandy.

All the best

John
