base training

Question
I have run competitively throughout hs and college (graduated last spring) and I
want to start running significant mileage again. The road races I want to
compete in are all next spring, so my question is whether or not six months
(about) would be too long to run only base mileage. I usually only do about a 12
to 16 week base, but I feel like an extended base phase could be helpful.

Answer
Hi Travis
Knowing how much your body gets beat up in college do to all the racing and class schedules i think adding some extra time would be a good idea. The one thing i would add is a a good weight program, upper and lower and solid core work early in your build up for 3 months. This will help with correcting some alignment, tracking, and some muscle imbalances you might have picked up along the way.If you have any other questions Travis just get in touch. What kind of times do you run?

All the best

John
