Right Knee hurts when I run (and after as well)

I hope you can answer my question because my knee is hurting right now. Ive started running to a new gym that is nearby and certain parts are quite steep downhill. I run there and run back home (which is again steep but uphill). Its quite a fast 10-15 mins run going and coming and ever since I started it last week, I can feel a glitch in the left side of my right knee. It feels like a certain pain in the left going up to the top of that left side. I have a feeling its because of the way I run which is over-pronated and it hurts on the right knee because that is my leading leg when i am running

shoes, make sure you have the right pair of shoes for your gait and stride. Head to a runner's store where they can watch you run on a treadmill for a minute and then can diagnose what kind of shoes are good for you.

Secondly, if you just started running, then expect some kinks to start out, and because you are doing fast downhills, they can kill your quads, so if you are over pronating, you are putting more pressure on your knees, which will undoubtedly hurt them a bit.

Fix the shoes, and then try for another course to the gym, maybe take the long way around, which may not be as steep, this will help relieve some pain.

QUESTION: Dear Nick, thanks so much for your reply. I am checking it out with a doctor tommorrow because I already have the right shoes from a runners shop where they watched they i run in 4 pairs of shoes till finally choosing the right one. They are definitely old and I will replace them, however I am also being advised by the doctor to get custom-made in-soles. What is your opinion on this?

Not a bad idea either yea, insoles can make a huge difference if you've already figured out step one, the shoes. The options to create your own are pretty widespread, the most popular are heat molds, where you get a padding, and then heat it in the oven for about 10 minutes, then slide them in your shoes and walk around for about 20 minutes. Boom. custom insoles. couldn't be easier!

But, shoes, insoles aside, find some level ground as well. hills, up or down are great, but all the time can be hurtful on your body.
