Runners knee:(

Question
Hey John I have an issue with runners knee. About 2 weeks ago is when I first noticed it. I took a week off and the day I start back it hurts 20 minuets in my run. So I order a knee brace and test it out 4 days later. Once again the pain comes back in my knee. I looked on the Internet and now I think I have a plan. A article said 4-6 weeks is full recovery so I plan on for the next 3 weeks to not run but still swim then the next 3 weeks gradually build back up my running. Does this sound good? I do not think my case is severe since by the next day most of the pain goes away. How much rest do you think I should take? I'm hoping next year to place top 5 in sc cross country so I really need this problem to go away. Thank you so much for your time!
