Knee Pain During Running.

Question
I am 23 yrs old and never had any problems with my knee before.  I had been training for a state police physical test for a few months and was running 5miles 3 times a week, i also work valet part time on the weekends and that is a lot of running on friday nights, for about 6 or so hours.  My question is that one friday night, 5 days after my physical test i felt a weird pain in my right knee, as the night went on the pain got worse, until the end of the night where i could barley walk, let alone run.  The next day it was ok, i just felt the pain if i was bent down and i was getting up, i could feel very LITTLE pain when i was walking, and could bend my knee and stretch it just fine, it also does not hurt if i touch it.  I tried to run again last night and as soon as i began it started to hurt almost as bad as it did towards the end of friday night, which was four days ago.  than you soooo much in advance and im not sure if i should just rest and ice it or go see a doctor.

Answer
Hi Michael
I'm quite sure you developed a tracking and alignment situation based on your description leading up to  the situation. You do not need to see a doctor or ice,you need to treat the cause. What i recommend is an up right stationary bike workouts as often as you can with medium tension increasing it as you become stronger at high rev 65 to 90 rpm for 45 min.I would do no other activities until this clears.Just stick with the bike workouts. You just have to have a great deal of patience and don't take any meds.If you have any questions just get in touch or call me here in albuquerque any time from 6am to 8pm MT for more clarity with you like.

All the best

John
