Running at 59

Question
I'm on the road to 60 and weigh in at about 255. I was a runner 30 years ago and loved it. I weighed in at 200. I'm 6' tall, have no medical conditions, no problems with my knees and I'd like to get back into running for exercise. I need some words of wisdom on how to get started without getting discouraged.

Answer
Hi Ethan
First i started out just like you years ago,but a little less weigh 225.Second it is going to take time and you have to have a great great deal of patience and don't rush your come back because you will end up with all kinds of injuries. The body will adapt and you will be able to get back those lost years. You can not run off all the extra weight with out really getting your diet under control. No magic diet just good high quality well balanced meals and you no what they consist of.Also you know what is bad for you so if your tempted just use in moderation or best yet turn on a dime and just give it up for a while. Now the training.Set a goal such as gradually building up your running for 45 min to 1hr 5 days a week in a very comfortable relaxed pace where you are not laboring and truly in the zone and feeling real good about your progress. At this point starting out there is no need for any pushing the pace or speed, that comes latter after about 6 to 7 months of building your foundation of the muscular skeleton and cardiovascular system capillary network and mitochondria which are the power plants of the cell which they supply most of the energy to the cell which gives you the ability to run long comfortably. It is a very simple process and will greatly enhance your life in ways you can't imagine down the road like it has mind. From scratch like you in 4 years i ran a 3:11 marathon.I was back from the dead.ENJOY.If you have other questions Ethan you can just get in touch or feel free to call me here in albuquerque NM any time from 6am to 8pm MT any time.

Enjoy the journey
and have fun on the way

John
