Flat feet

Question
I recently started jogging.  I have very flat feet and was just wearing a cheaper running shoe that had no special support.  I started getting horrible blisters but the muscle pain was manageable and faded as I got used to the routine. So I went to a store that looks carefully at they way you walk and checks your foot out.  I was put in a nice and expensive pair of motion control Nike shoes with lots of arch support.  Since I have been wearing them I have had horrible sharp pains in my inner calve.  I have never had such a supportive shoes and I was wondering if my muscles just need to get used to the new position of my feet or if the shoes are just bad for me.

Answer
Hi Sarah
You should of kept what you had,as a new runner your muscular skeleton would probably of adapted very nicely.Blisters can be a very normal process as your fascia strengthens in time and the same goes for the muscular skeleton from the stress on all tissues. My motto is if it is not broken don't fix it.I would go back to your old shoes which were fine and go back to the store and get your money back and just tell them they are killing you and just not working out. Also don't let them talk you out of it.If they are good business people they wil say i'm sorry and give you a refund. The shoes today are way to controlling and i have been running and buying shoes for 30 years. If you want to dicuss this over phone just go to my site and get my contact info.I'm in albuquerque NM.Anything else on this just get in touch Sarah.

All the best

John
