TFL pain


Question
Larry, I just read a question from a 50-yr-old female who has hip pain when running.  I think I have the same thing, but I'm quite sure mine is at the origin of the TFL (not the iliacis).  I have palpable pain right on the right ASIS after running and hip flexion hurts when it is flared up (including going up stairs).  This has been going on for months, I have not rested like I know I should, but I've been able to do everything, and it's been more of a discomfort than a pain.  BUT, lately, it seems to be getting worse (especially after any type of speed work) Do you have any idea what may be causing this? and how I can prevent it from coming back after I rest it to heal?  I really appeciate your help! Thank you!

Hello,
I'm a 17-year old athlete , running 800-1500m.
I've got a huge problem with my pelvis, I don't even know what's the problem and where it is.Both sides and  looks to be on the Illiac crest or the ASIS.I was by many doctors and nobody couldn't really help.
They aren't giving me pain when I run , but when I touch them it's a huge pain.I'm having a training trip in 3 weeks and don't want to throw some big cash away and just walk there.
I don't know what to do with them.First time i felt pain 2 months ago and then i stopped to train , because I couldn't even walk for 2 days it was really painful.Then I had some rest and ice.
After that i started with some easy jogging , I didn't  felt pain on easy jogging,but when going fast it was painful.So I made some easy jogging.Then I went to some "good doctor".
He said that I have an ASIS inflammation and he gave me a syringe with "DEPO-MEDROL".1 time and after 10 days another time and that's all.He said that I had to rest some days and can start working.So now I'm running not very fast but fast, doing my workouts.
But I'm scared that the pain can come back , because when I touch them (both iliac crests) it's painful. I'm giving some Ibuprofen everyday and everything more.
Maybe you know this situation and you can help me.

I have evaluated everything you mentioned and your picture of location and checked the meds you were given plus looked at some nice images on google to get up to speed.Like many doctors which i'm not very fond of cause they basically treat generically and treat the symptoms instead of the root cause which in your situation and all injuries you have to treat what caused the problem.You can trace all injuries back with 98% accuracy when they started surfacing.It is at that time you have to take immediate action and correct what is going on or like in your situation it has interrupted your training to the point where you can't train at the level you need to.There is not a simple answer for your situation.You have some structural problems and weakness in and around the core area and other related muscles ,tendons,ligaments.Everything in this area is interrelated such as hamstrings,quads,adductor,abductors,abdominals,back,pelvis(rotation)plus all the supporting tendons and ligaments which are now very much inflamed because of the weakness of what i just referred to.Using any medication to fix it is just a band aid and should of not been used.Again you have to treat and fix the cause of the problem.It was as you say 2 months ago when you started having problems.Also you have to take a very close look at your training schedule.Being only 17 i would get this corrected immediately and not continue with normal training till it is fixed appropriately and cancel any plans.You have to many great years in front of you.Just chalk it up to a good education for the future to treat all symptoms as very serious.If you want to call me here in albuquerque NM anytime you are more than welcome.I hope i have explained your situation in a way that you totally understand and comprehend and make sense of Vladimir.All injuries are directly  related to tracking and alignment issues of the muscular skeleton system and all the supporting tendons and ligaments and in track and field and distance running athletes are always and everyday stressing those PILLARS which support a healthy training schedule and optimal performance.If you have any other questions just get in touch Vladimir.What kind of times have you run???
