Pain behind the knee

Question
Greetings,
I am a 38 year old guy and have run for 23 years usually once a week along with various other sports another 2-3 times/ week. I run indoors and shorter distances during the winter, and longer 15km outside during the summer. After participating in an Olympic Triathlon in September I have been getting very stiff after my usual run behind my left knee- in the lower Hamstring but more generalized than just the muscle, kind of radiating out. It usually lasts 2-3 days and takes a few minutes to loosen up enough to walk normally after I have been sitting still. It seemed to correspond with a pain in the center of my heel initially though that has largely diminished. There is similar tenderness in my right lower hamstring with out the pain. Thanks,
Tristan

Answer
Hi Tristan
It appears to me based on your description that it could be a strained plantaris or slight pull. The tendon goes down to the heel. You should lightly stretch your achilles tendon. You should ice it as often as you can and back off your training a little till your situation heals. Also take 500mg vit C with your 3 meals a day to enhance recovery of tendons, collagen,.Also go google (plantaris tendon)to get a feel if i pin pointed it.Any other questions just in touch Tristan.

All the best

John
