Jogging program

Hello, I am greatly considering beginning a running course at the recreation center that I work @ in a trade school.  This new job is to motivate and get these students involved (ages 16-24) in recreation programs and since I enjoy running recreationally, I wanted to start a running program.  I'm not too sure exactly how to get started and how to attract these students to the program.The majority of the students that are involved in our recreation programs seem to be male and the females don't seem to be as involved and seem overweight. I want to develop a running/conditioning class that can keep them motivated and involved. The campus is pretty big and it also has a track. Any help would be great!Thank you :)

You might want to look into a jogging/walking interval program, so it starts out with spurts of running, instead of a constant jarring on the body with a continuous run, with people who may not be used to doing it frequently, or ever.  Start out with walking for more time than jogging, then reduce it to equal amounts of time, followed by more running times than walking times.  An example:
20 minutes of 4 minutes walk, 1 minute jog x 4 cycles.
20 minutes of 3 minutes walk, 1 minute jog x 5 cycles.
21 minutes of 2 minutes walk, 1 minute jog x 7 cycles.
These are just some ideas, I would research some more online with some sample walk/jog programs that are meant for populations like this (those who are just starting out w/running).
