Pain in Bone

Question
QUESTION: Hi Larry Miller,

I am Srinivas and my weight is 100 kilos. I started jogging 2 months ago, but i am continuously running from last three weeks with a day break. I have severe pain in both legs, the pain is on my legs. I don have any complains with the pain in thigh because after stretching i can feel relaxation but i have severe pain in my bones. Please help me out...

ANSWER: Srinivas,

My immediate recommendation is to see a sports medicine physician and ask for an x-ray.  Given your complaint, your weight, and you recently beginning a running program, it may very well be a stress fracture.  Stop running immediately and schedule an appointment.  This is the only recommendation that makes sense.  Good luck.

QUESTION: Hi Larry,

I just wanted to check with if i could do any other alternative to running..? I could see the difference in body after i started to jog, but i think stopping it will again put on weight. Please suggest me some exercises to reduce my weight.

Answer
Until you are given a green light to begin running again, your alternatives probably boil down to cycling, swimming, running in a pool, elliptical trainer, rowing machine, or any other exercise that 1) does not hurt your shin, and 2) limits the amount of body weight that your shins are supporting.  Just to clarify, it may not be a stress fracture, but given your description, you want to rule it out.  Running with a stress fracture is very painful and may lead to a larger, more disabling fracture.
