Knee pain after Big Sur

Question
I just ran the Big Sur Marathon on 29 April and still have lingering knee pain.  I've done some research, and I'm not sure that I'm experiencing "runner's knee;" my pain is lower and more toward the inside of my knee.

I definately under-trained for this event, starting to run only six months ago, getting in 15-20 miles per week with two 13 milers and one 18 miler as my only longer distances.  The course was hilly with many off-camber turns.  I finished in 4:17, so I'm hooked and want to do better, but I need to heal first!

I'm walking with a limp.  I've noticed it's more comfortable to walk with my foot pointed straight ahead, rather than slightly out, as I normally walk.  I ride bicycle with a very high cadence, but even that is difficult with my knee pain.  I'm taking ibuprofin.

What might this be; what can I do?

Answer
You should rest, ice and take anti-inflammatories such as ALEVE or IBUPROFEN. Most likely you have a case of tendonitis as you were not properly trained for the event. It may take a while to heal. Rest from running, and do the above for a week and see if it improves. Hopefully it does.
