which is better?

Question
Hello my name is Colin.  I am a 21 year old male that is 6 foot 6 and weighs 250 pounds. I have been a very competitive basketball player for my entire life and about a year ago I decided to quit playing college basketball.  I have a problem with eating a lot and my eating habits are very poor because my entire life I have been able to eat whatever I want and not worry about it.  I want to lose about 15-20 pounds.  I have been told by many people that the quickest way to drop the pounds was to run.  This is becoming a problem because I have had two knee operations that make running every day difficult.  So i was wondering how effective swimming is for a cardio and fat burning workout compared to running.  The area that is the one I want to target is the belly like everyone in the world.  I plan on putting a lifting workout along with whatever cardio I can put together. So what I really want to know is what I can do to lose this weight. Is swimming just as good if not better than running? and what type of swimming workout should I look to put together? Hopefully you can answer my question and help me lose these pesky 15-20 pounds.  Hope to hear from you soon.  Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
Hi Colin
I would recomend you do the exercise bike over the swimming to max your weight loss. The duration of your rides should be as long as you can tolerate.2 hour rides is a great target to shoot for.Your an athlete, so just go for it colin and be patient and consistent. That fat will just drop off.If you want to get in some swimming along with your biking,go for as long as you can tolerate like the bike.I believe if you want to get results, you pull out all the stops and get back into the athlete mode and make it happen. The bike is also fantastic for your knees since it really improves the tracking and strengthens the quads.I would stay away from squats colin. If you have any other questions mike just get in touch. The magic words are PATIENCE,and being consistent with what your commited to what you want to accomplish.

All the best mike
