Back of Knee Pain After Hiking: Causes & Relief
Question
I was hiking on a hill on the Gettysburg battlefield today and took a large step across a small gully. The back of my left leg just behind the knee got sore then the pain increased to the point where it was difficult to walk the 1/2 mile home. I've been icing and elevating it. It is at the top of my calf.
Answer
Hi Gordon
Looks like a slight pull of the plantaris or strain.Your doing the right thing with ice and elevation, but i wouldn't rush back untill there is no discomfort.I would add 500mg of vit. c with your 3 meals a day to enhance your recovery. This is like gold to strengthen tendons, and connective tissue etc.If you have any other questions get in touch.
Best to you
John
