mid calf pain

Question
Last week, toward the end of and 8 mile run (mostly softer surface), my right mid calf started to tighten up.  For the next few days, it was sore enough (right below the major calf muscle, in the gastro/soleus area, I think) to not run, and even hurt some when I walked.  By today (Thursday), the pain was mostly gone.  I tried to run, but the pain,  which really just feels like a very tight muscle, came back very quickly.  I've been icing all week, and will clearly rest some more.  My question is, should I be stretching regularly, or not?  The cool running web site at http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/196.shtml seems to indicate that I should do something like "wall pushups" quite often for this pain.  But, I'm not sure how I feel about that.  It does not hurt more when I do these stretches, just tightens up.

Any thoughts you have would be much appreciated...

Thanks,
Mike DeSchryver

Answer
Hi Mike
I would definitly suggest you don't strech it,since it has allredy been streched to the point where it took you down.Only when you can jog with no discomfort before or after, you should start adressing that calf with some light streching.I would recomend taking a couple of weeks off and walk instead to let it heal well, and then start back gradually.

To your success

John
