black toe

Question
Hi John,

I've been training for a marathon for about 2 months already.  The second month into training I noticed that my 2nd left toe started hurting.  Then the nail part started to bruise and turn black.

Do you know what cause it?  It this normal?  If not, how serious is it?

Answer
Cindy
Not serious cindy but could lead to problems. With the increase in milage your foot is expanding and spreading and your shoe's are probably to tight leaving no room for expantion except jaming your toe's.You probably need a little larger shoe. This is a normal process.I went from a ten and a half to a twelve over time and also had my share of black toe's.
I think you will see quick relief when you change shoes.
Let me know howit works out.

The very best to you
John
