Yosemite climb open?

2016/7/22 8:47:52

Question
Hi - any idea if it is now safe to do the Good Book (right side of the Folly).  I heard it was hairy due to rock fall.

Thanks!

Answer
Kalvan,
Climbing anywhere in the Glacier Point Apron area poses a degree of risk.  There has been rock fall all across the region from east side to Curry Village. I check with the climbing store employees and they report that the area is not officially closed, but locals consider climbng on the Apron to pose more risk than clibing other areas.

I personally would climb on certain parts of the Apron but not others. I have eaperienced large and small rock fall on both sides of the Valley and in all areas, so it's always a risk.

If you want to take rockfall totally out of the equation go to Tuolumne Meadows where rock fall is virtually non existant.

Gooe Luck
