Preventing Elbow Tendonitis in Rock Climbing: A Guide for Returning Climbers

Question
I'm starting back up rock climbing after a year of rest. Last year when I was practicing climbing (once or twice a week at indoor gyms) I developed extremely sore elbows. I talked to some people and they said it might have been tendonitis. Is there a way to avoid this unfortunate fate as I return to the climbing scene?

Answer
Dear Michael---I am not an expert in training issues, but I will share my insight----gyms have created an easy opportunity for over training. I met a young doctor who was permanently disabled at age 21 from over-training at the gym every week.

Climbing is hard on your orthopedics. As for me, I save myself for the real stuff and avoid the plastic.
