2k anaerobic

Question
Hey!
I have a question about future 2k potential... I've been doing long pieces around 5-6 days a week like 3x4k, 2x6k, and a few hour of powers... I'm kind of injured so I'm not really able to do interval sprint type pieces. I'm taking a 2k in around 3 and a half weeks so I was wondering how you think not doing anaerobic threshold stuff will affect me...
I'm seventeen years old, a lightweight, and looking to pull a 7:50 on my next 2k.
thanks!

Answer
Hi Srey: It's not that easy to predict 2K times based on long distance pieces.  Maybe if I had some of your 6K times, I could interpolate your time based on results posted on the Concept II database.  I do think you answered your own question, aerobic and anarobic results can be totally different.  It's like saying a marathoner would be a great 100 meter sprinter -- possible but not definite.

I do think you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you jump right into a 2K without doing at least a couple weeks of sprint and interval training.  If your injuries are severe enough to preclude you from doing interval training now, should you even be considering rowing a 2K in less than a month?  Rowing is a hard enough sport even without any injuries.  Maybe you need to take time off and try to recover from your injuries and maybe do some weights and running in the meantime.

Good Luck/AP
