2k ergo

Question
Hey
I'm 16, 6'3 and 170lbs. I rowed in my schools first 8 this year with a 2k score of 6:28. I have one more high school rowing season to go and want to lower my ergo score as much as possible during the off season. What would be the best sort of training to do right now in order to lower my ergo to around 6:10 by the end of next season. I really want to lower my ergo score because I have hopes of getting a scholarship to college.

Answer
Hey Rob,
That is a big leap, so it will take lots of work. For starters, I would recommend that you gain about 20 pounds, because you are a very light heavy weight. With more weight, I would work on lifting very heavy weights, because to make such a change, you need to bulk up. I would also work on my core strength if I were you, and I would do 500's, 1500's and finally a 2k on the erg. I know this all sounds fairly basic, and I realizee you yu could have probably come up with this on your own, but strong core, heavier weights, and sprint pieces on the erg, with extra fat to mae muscle out of really is the way to go.
