Single Scull vs. Erg: Comparing 2000m Times

Question
Hello,
I'm wondering what 2000m would be on a single scull, as opposed to a 2000m on an erg (assuming that technique/conditions are good, etc.)
Thanks

Answer
Hi Riley: It's an interesting question.  However, it is almost an apples-to-oranges comparison.  A time of 7:30 is a relatively mediocre 2K time on an erg, but would be a very competitive time in a single in a 2000 meter race.

When I was training and competing in a single many years ago, I could easily beat people who had ch mubetter erg times than me.  There are so many technical aspects to rowing a single that an ergometer can't measure.  The Concept II ergometer is far better in assessing performance in an 8-oared shell than a single.

Hope that Helps/AP
