Achieve a 6:00 1500m Rowing Goal: Training & Strategy

Question
In about a month and a half, i have to pull a 1500 to get into a boat for summer season.
Right now, I'm a soph girl 135 pounds and pull an 8:10 for my first ever 2k.
I was injured so I've been off the erg since winter season but I've been rowing and such.
I want to make the v4 with girls who pull in the 7:50 area.
What is a good goal to set for the 1500?
And how should i go about preparing for this now?

Answer
Hi Lindsay: Based on everything you told me, shoot for a 1500 goal of 6 minutes or better.  If your injuries have healed enough, you need to begin working your way back on the ergometer.  Start with some long distance pieces at a controlled stroke rate, like a 6K.  If you can do that, rest a few days and try doing 6-to-8 500 meter pieces at 2:00 or better.  The next week, shoot for 3 to 4 1000 meter pieces at 4:00 minutes or better.  Then try a 1500 meter time trial the week after that.

Make sure you supplement your workouts with weights and running.

Good Luck/AP
