Good 2k Score

Hey,
I am planning on going to the US Naval Academy and i also want to row there. I am a boy and go to an all boys high school that has a pretty good rowing team. I am a boy, 5 foot 6 inches, 119 pounds, and my 2k is a 7:50 (i have a 2k test tomorrow and will probably go low 7:forties) What is a good 2k time for me to row as a navy lightweight? i realize that my size may be a problem.

Dear Gabriel,

Your score puts you in the lower half of percentile rankings for rowing. While you definitively don't have a bad score, to be recruited for rowing at navy would require a score (minimally) in the mid 6:40 or so. This is only what it would take to be recruited, not what it would take to row. There are many walk-ons on a college team, so if you had the brains, you could get in there and be a very competitive walk on. You should really work on getting you 2k score into the low Seven minute mark, if you can do that, you would be in the better half of all rowers your size.
