Rowing potential for college?

Question
Hi. I'm a female sweeper going into my junior year of high school and my second year of varsity crew. I am 5'7 and about 137 lbs. with a 2k PR of 7:33. Last year I made my varsity boat as bow seat. Will I be able to compete at a major rowing college (Like Cal, Washington, Brown, etc.?)Do certain colleges have height requirements (over 5'8, etc.)? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Sarah: Your erg time puts you in the 70th percentile for college-age rowers.  The good news is you are going to get more experience and strength in the next two years; so you may be in the 90th percentile by the time you get to college.  Assuming your on-water technique is sound, being in the Top-10% for erg times would enable you to get a fair shot at most major crew programs.

I don't see height to be a major factor as long as you don't mind rowing in the bow seat.

Good Luck/AP
