Question
My sone loves water and I have done a fair amount of diving, I wont him to have lessons, but no-where does it for under tens, I would love him to just have a go of the kit in our pool, but I am worried that because he is only 4 there might be health issues, the pool is 6 foot deep

Answer
Hi Dave.
First, let me apologize for the late response.  I've been out of town and had very limited access to e-mail.  I just received this question a few minutes ago!!

While I would love to encourage you to expose your son to scuba diving, I think four is just too young to put him on scuba, regardless of the water depth.  Most kids just don't have the ability to exercise proper judgment at that age and I'm very concerned that he may aspirate water or, conceivably, experience a lung over-expansion injury.  This can occur in the 6 foot deep pool you mentioned.

Please be careful.

Sincerely,
Mike Giles
