Hopkins & Allen combo rifle&shotgun

Question
Mr Gage,
I've come into possession of a Hopkins & Allen take down 32 WCF and 16 ga shotgun.  The serial number of receiver, octagon rifle barrel and shotgun barrel is 8024.  I cannot locate any information regarding the date of the weapon.  Therefore, I must ask you..... All of the components are in pretty good condition... I'm not interested in selling it but have invested $475 in it.   Did I get hurt?

         Thank you

Answer
Hello, Skip Marshall.
Sorry I have taken so long answering your question. I had a similar question asked in 2009 and was not able to find much information then, and no more now. It was manufactured by Hopkins & Allen. All components were serial numbered to match, so your combo is a correct example. The only thing new I have found is an approximate manufacture date. This would be from 1890 to 1902. For a value, I have not found any complete H&A Combo's, on any sale sites, nor is one listed in the latest Blue Book of Gun Values by Fjasted. I have found one falling block, with the correct interchangeable frame, in a rifle caliber. It was priced at $175. I was, also, able to find a shotgun, with the correct frame, for $150. They both needed some minor repairs. My conclusion, as a value, is that you are at the upper end of it's worth. As I stated previously, I do not have sufficient results to make any 'in stone' conclusions. The .32 WCF would be .32-20 Winchester Center Fire. Being of such an early manufacture, I strongly suggest firing only black powder cartridges and shell in it.
Thank you very much for asking for my answers. Charles Gage
