.38 US Revolver Company

2016/7/22 9:04:38

Question
Can you tell me what ammo to use for a US Revolver Company 5 shot hammer revolver with a 3 1/4 inch barrel with a serial number of 8482 (no letter prefix ?

Answer
Any .38 ammo should work, if the gun is older I would not shoot a lot of plus P (+P) ammo since the extra powder can damage the older barrels if used all the time.

Hollow point (HP) or ball will not matter since feeding from a mag is not an issue. NO .357 even if it fits.

Bullet type would depend on what you want if for, home protection or self defense hollow point is normally better, for the range or target ball works and is cheaper.

You should always shoot old ammo first and shoot some of the same ammo you carry, so if you keep it loaded with hollow point, then you need to shoot some of those rounds.

Some people keep loaded with HP and then only shoot ball ammo, not good, you need to know that all ammo works in the gun so always shoot some of what you carry.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Some one has told me my answer was wrong and dangerous, they did not give any specifics. I am assuming that you have a .38 Caliber revolver and it should shoot any .38 caliber ammo. However, if this some strange or special firearm that I am not familiar with, make sure that we are talking about the same thing. Without seeing the gun, test firing it or inspecting it's condition, there is no way for me to give prefect advice. I try and help the best I can with the information I have.

Thanks,

I only ask that you update your answer to this questioner of the right ammunition to use or pass the question to the Question Pool. Charles Gage AllExpert.

Mr. Gore, please add this information to your answer. The US Revolver Company was a trade name used by Iver Johnson from 1910 to 1935. It started out as a means of using leftover parts from the Iver Johnson Safety Automatic Revolver Second Model, during the transition from the blackpowder cartridge Second Model, to the smokeless powder Third Model. It was manufactured in .22 rimfire, .32 S&W and .38 S&W ( not .38 S&W Special).
Your revolver, serial number 8482, was manufactured in 1910, the first year of production. Not all Iver Johnson revolvers had a letter prefix to the serial number. Charles Gage
