Question
I have a Remington 16 gauge Wingmaster 870 shotgun which I recently bought; I'm trying to figure out the age of the gun by the serial numbers. The serial number is-623471W.The barrel, which is non-vented, full-choke, has the following stamped nearest the firing mechanism-BFQ. Also, is it advisable to shoot non-Sabot style slugs through this firearm? Thank you in advance for any info you can give me on this subject.

Answer
Randy,

You can contact remington at 1-800-243-9700, they should be able to help you with dating your firearm. As for non-sabot slugs, if your gun is in working condition it should safely fire those slugs. Because of civil liability, I certainly cannot say that your gun is safe to fire that style ammo, you will have to be the judge or carry the firearm in to a gunsmith for inspection.
