H&R Handygun registration

2016/7/22 9:06:24

Question
How does one find out if the serial # they have has been registered?  Is it possible to do so without running the risk of sacrificing the gun to the authorities?

Answer
Marc,

If you don't have the paperwork, the only way to find out is to contact the BATFE.  If it was not registered prior to 1968, the gun is considered contraband and must be surrendered.  If this is a family heirloom, you might check with other relatives to see if they remember anything.  If you are considering purchasing from a private party that cannot produce registration documentation, do not walk but RUN from the transaction.  The BATFE considers this to be a serious violation and does prosecute.

Good luck,

Doug
