gun wear

Question
Hi, I have a Rossi 68 38sp and notice when tilting the gun
to
the left -magazine away from frame- that there is a slight
gap between the yoke and the frame. The gap is about as wide
as two sheets of notebook paper. Are revolvers suppose to be
tight concerning the yoke to frame fit or is it normal to
have some play there? Thanks! Gary

Answer
Hello Gary,

Your revolver should have some clearance inbetween the yoke and the frame. Rough 2-3 one thousands of an inch. Given that notebook paper is 4-5 one thousands of an inch thick you likely have a small gap there, which is pretty common. If the condition gets worse it will create what is called "End Shake" so that when you move the revolver with the cylinder in place you will feel the cylinder move. This will require attention by a qualified gunsmith and usually requires a bushing be placed in the gun to tighten up things. Best of luck, make sure you get the gun checked before firing if you have any doubts!
