Question
Hi i just got my Great Grandfather Side by Side 3/4" barrel, 31 7/8" length W M Moore shot gun if you open to load the gun there is a # 48757, between the barrels is Laminated Steel. Can you tell me when it was made? what the value would be? it has a good amount of rust on it. If it I clean it with that effect the value? And anything else about the gun
Thank you
Mike

Answer
Hi,
First with Laminated barrels its not safe to shoot with modern ammo.
It was made before 1905

The original Wm. Moore and Company produced good grade English shotguns.
1853- 1895 at 43 Old Bond Street London.

Wm. Moore and Company was used on Belgium made bar-locks imported by the H. & D. Folsom Arms Company in NYC.

William Moore & Company was a Henri Pieper trade brand on Belgium made shotguns from 1877 to 1898.

I suggest you bring it to local expirenced gunsmith and have him determine whose gun it is by its proof marks.

In terms of cleaning it depends on which gun it is.
If its English maker cleaning may effect its value.

There really not much interest in Belgium made guns imported by the H. & D. Folsom.
