Colt Model 1877 DA .4
QUESTION: I was wondering how much I could get for this gun? I has a serial number of 113. Not sure if this is correct but it was the only number I could find

ANSWER: Tim,

Based on the serial number, your gun was one of the first made of this type.  Serial numbers 1-3000 were designated for 1877.  It is difficult to assess the condition based on the photo you provided, but it would appear to be in 50% condition or less due to the brown patina (basically rust), cracks in the grip near the screw, etc.  You did not tell me if this gun's mechanism is a working mechanism, but the value I am providing assumes that it is.  The mechanisms for this version were pretty delicate.  A reasonable price range for this gun would probably be something in the $675 to $875 range.

Ultimately, the value is going to be what it might be worth to a particular collector.  I have seem some older guns like this one go for much higher than their book value at auction.  This is especially  the case if there is any interesting 'backstory' about the gun that can be documented.

That's probably the best I can do based on the available info...I hope this helps you out.

Best regards,

Doug Little

QUESTION: Doug, the mechanisms do still work. Where is the best to sell this gun?

Tim

Answer
Tim,

I'd probably try one of the online auction sites, either Gunbroker or Guns America.  I personally like Gunbroker better.  Guns America seems to cater more to older, collectable type guns so you might have good success there.

www.gunbroker.com

www.gunsamerica.com

Best of luck to you...
