difference between 40 acp and 40 sw ammo

2016/7/22 9:10:59

Question
Doug: can use 40 sw ammo in my glock 23 or do I have to use 40 acp. Is there a difference?
Mike Rubosky

Answer
Mike,

There is only one type of .40 ammo for your Glock 23.  It is .40 caliber S&W.  I know it might seem a little confusing, but sometimes a type of ammunition takes its name from the manufacturer that introduced the cartridge.

In the case of .40 caliber S&W it was Smith & Wesson.  There are other examples like .357 SIG, .45 GAP, .45 ACP, etc.

By the way, there is no .40 cal ACP.

Hope this helps...

Doug
