rifle serial number

Hello, my husband's gun is now missing/stolen. I don't have the paperwork. He is out of the country. The store we bought it at doesn't sell guns any more. I need the serial number to complete the police report. Where can I get the serial number? thanks!

 Unfortunately you will only find the serial number located on the gun. If neither of you wrote the serial number down, registered it with your local sheriffs office, or have the original paperwork, there isn't anything that can be done.
