Question
I have a smooth bore 22 its been in the family for years. serial # J041002  with a P and 22 stamped just above the wood stock. Also an octagon barrel. Is it the Boy Scout or military versions. What is the aprox age and can it be restored?

Answer
First this is a highly collectable rifle.
These were made from 1913 to 1923.
15,000 were made.
They are worth $275 to $2250 depending on condition.
You should have it looked at by a local gunsmith for an appraisal.
I really can't advise you restorability.
You need to see the rifle in person.
Depending on condition it may be better to do nothing to it value wise.
Get more than one appraisal.
