Walther PP French manufacture

2016/7/22 9:11:58

Question
I was a pawn shop today and saw a Manurchin pistol that is a Walther PP licensed production.  It had on its slide Model PP 7.65mm; IAC Alex. Va; Tillhor Polisen; made in France.  On the grips, Lic. by Walther.

Any idea on the value, i.e., price?

By the way, I saw you graduated from Appalachian State Univ.  So did my Mom - years earlier, I'm sure - in 1943!

Answer
Sam,

Yes, your Mom did graduate quite a few years prior to me.  When she went there it was probably called Appalachian State Teachers College...

To the specifics of your question...

After WWII, the Allies did not permit arms to be manufactured in Germany as part of the terms of surrender.  Manurin manufactured Walther's under license.  Manurin started manufacturing in 1952.  From 1952 to 1984 they were imported into the US by Interarms of Alexandria, VA.

In 98% condition, the value should be around $340.  In 95% condition, around $300.  In 90% condition $245.  Since I cannot examine the gun or view any photos, any values are approximate.  I will also tell you that pawn shops generally price their guns higher, either with the expectation of a negotiation or with the assumption that their clientele is not 'price savvy' and will purchase thinking the firearm in question has a higher value than it actually does.

By the way, these are not especially rare or collectable.  If you buy it, you should by it as a shooter, not a collectable.  The real collectables are the rarely WWII variations of the PP and PPK and the pre-1938 versions of the same gun...

Hope this helps you out and best regards!!

Doug
