i have a savage 170 in a 30-30 cal.
could you tell me when it was made?
it has press checkering on the fore end and but stock
the stocks are made from walnut

Hello Tom. The  Savage Model 170 in .30-30cal. with a 22" barrel  was manufactured between 1970 and 1981. There was also a Model 170C Carbine with an 18 1/2" barrel. It was manufactured between 1974 and 1981. There were a few that were manufactured early that did not receive a serial number.
