Western Field 20 ga bolt action shotgun

2016/7/22 9:18:40

Question
Can you tell me when a Western Field 20 ga bolt action shotgun with C-Lect choke - model #M175B s/n 255440 was made?  Any guess as to approximate value?  The gun is in near mint condition...a couple minor scratches in the clear coat with absolutely no rust.

Answer
Darrin,

This particular gun was probably manufactured by Stevens Arms.  They made most of the Montgomery Wards Western Field house brand rifles and shotguns.

These were mass marketed shotguns, so it would be very difficult to tell when it was made.  Most of the time, the sentimental value of a shotgun like this would exceed it's actual worth.  In good condition, you might get $100-$150 for it...maybe a little more if it is truly in the condition you mention.

Unfortunately, there were so many of these made, there are literally thousands of them out there in closets and garages...if it belonged to a close relative and has any sentimental value, I'd probably just hang onto it.

Sorry I can't be more helpful...

Doug
