Carrying an concealed, unholstered firearm in vehicle.

Question
I have an az.ccw is it in violation of az. gun laws to carry my hand gun unholstered as in my truck conceled? We have been debating this question for some time now. I tried to look it up on the web but you have to be a lawyer to read some of these laws. thank you for your answer.

Answer
Robert,

If you have an Arizona CCW permit, it is perfectly legal for you to conceal your firearm anywhere in your vehicle...holstered or not.  From a safely consideration, I'd simply recommend that you put it someplace where it won't fly around if you have to brake sharply.  Don't want loaded guns bounding around inside of occupied vehicles ;-).

You probably got the holster thing confused with the requirement to have the pistol "two steps removed from immediate access" while transporting in a vehicle if you DON'T have an AZ CCW permit.  If it is concealed and in a holster, it is generally considered to be two steps removed from immediate access.

Hope this helps...

Doug
